Rockfeedback presents: ALASKALASKA

ALASKALASKA are an art-pop 6-piece from London. They make beautiful, groove-laden music that seamlessly blends jazz, disco, funk and R&B into a bold and playful sound uniquely their own; synthetic beats play alongside live drums, delayed guitars and shimmering saxophones to create something musically rich and delightfully intricate.

Band leader and principle vocalist Lucinda twists brooding and introspective lyrics - akin to the words of Arthur Russell - into infectious melodies reminiscent of Warpaint, Dirty Projectors or Talk Talk, which demand repeat listens and could as easily soundtrack a wistful evening alone as they could a party. They've built a cult following and reputation as extraordinary performers through a handful of low-key London shows.

'Bitter Winter', the lead track from their debut EP, and 'Familiar Ways', are the perfect introduction to their brand of off-kilter pop.

'Bitter Winter' / 'Familiar Ways' is released via House Anxiety / Marathon Artists on Monday 22nd May - full EP coming summer 2017.

Join us for a

Mini Matsuri of Japan-A-Go-Go good times

with Frank Chickens and friends bringing a joyful night of live music, fun performance and late drinking in the atmospheric surroundings of the legendary Bethnal Green Working Mens club. From Japan via Tottenham over to Bethnal Green its a real

East meet East occasion!
An evening of the joyful, the serious and mostly the absurd!
Yeah but who is on you ask? well lets see....:
FRANK CHICKENS
Frank Chickens initially found fame in the late 80’s as a kimono & cardboard clad duo scoring a hit with the classic single “We are Ninja - No Geisha!” they toured the world with the likes of Billy Bragg & The Smiths, a Channel 4 series followed with a Perrier nomination at Edinburgh festival not far behind. Ninja Tunes released a remix album of Chickens favourites, Universal featured them on a best selling compilation and thanks to Stewart Lee's drunken late night internet rant Frank Chickens recently found themselves the unexpected but deserving winners of The Edinburgh Festival Comedy Gods Award!
The Chickens are no longer a duo having hatched and grown to now number an average of 14 members, often more! with songs, stories, costume changes, video visuals and a cast of thousands (well, there's a lot of them now anyway) they are as joyful & fun as ever!
But why are they called Frank Chickens? well they are named after a Japanese pencil which founder member Kazuko Hohki found during a holiday in Tokyo! Strange but true....

HIBIKI ICHIKAWA and AKARI MOCHIZUKI
Don't miss a rare performance of traditional Japanese music in the Uk from these two masters of the art.
Hibiki is a player of the Tsugaru Shamisen, a traditional 3-stringed Japanese instrument rarely heard in Europe.
Akari is a Japanese Enka & Minyo folk singer from Yamaguchi prefecture.
They have played for the Emperors birthday in the past but now they play for you coz you're just as important!
www.akarisinger.comhttp://www.hibikishamisen.com/

KAMURA OBSCURA
Live music from these guys! founder member Atsuko started out in Mizutama Shobodan (Polkadot Fire Brigade) one of Japan's first all female punk bands. Now she incorporates Enka, Chanson, vocal improvisation into the sound of this Japan/uk combo.
http://www.kamuraobscura.com/

K- BEAT
Get your Beat-Takeshi on!
With the Korean drummers of SOAS... POW!

RICHARD DEDOMENICI
Mr. Dedomenici shall be your host for the night - He shall be the Godzilla Of Goodness! Grrrr!
When not being Godzilla with a mic he is an artist who makes work that’s social, joyful, topical and political - although rarely simultaneously.
He specialises in urban-absurdist interventions! Cos someones gotta do it!

Oh and we are very pleased to also be able to show you the first ever screening of a beautiful new Japanese short animation at this Mini Ura night as well!

Live stuff starts from 9pm so don't dilly dally!

The Matsuri party carries on until 2am!

With your Monkey Stompin' DJ's for the night playing vinyl sounds to bop and stroll, stagger and stomp to:

D.J. GAIKOKUCHAN-MAN
Soundtracking the early part of the evening with vintage Showa period records randomly selected from a collection hunted out in the flea markets of Edo while working with Fuji Rock Festival. Perfect listening for a start of the night sake! Kanpai!
D.J. TOSHI TOSHI - THE EDO EMPRESS
Taking us into the Floating World of the night with a fine selection of East meets West vintage vinyl sounds from the Rock to the Roll and the Ska to the Enka!

See you there and remember "YOU ARE NINJA! - NO GEISHA!"

COMMUNION PRESENTS....

MATTHEW AND THE ATLAS

Matthew Hegarty (AKA Matthew And The Atlas) is a British songwriter and multi-instrumentalist and was the first artist to be signed to Communion.

After the dreamy and textured Americana of his To The North and Kingdom of Your Own EPs had built him a cult global following, Hegarty released the debut album Other Rivers in April 2014, prompting Q to call him "the British Bon Iver".

Recorded in East Nashville with Brian Holl and Eric Hillman from Foreign Fields, His latest album, Temple (22.04.16) is a cathartic expression of its writer's own fears and feelings. New parenthood inevitably colours Hegarty's perspective on the world – a world whose natural wonders seem terminally threatened by the relentless march of technology and apparent human advancement.

The "black figure" (the nebulous being that first appeared to him after he was near fatally stabbed in an attack) returns from Other Rivers to again loom over parts of Temple, and throughout the album its protagonists seem to be striving, aching even, to find their place in amongst it all. But ultimately there's hope in the darkness; redemption to be found in honest human relationships.

The album's themes inspired Hegarty to team up with photographer friend Dave Watts. The pair travelling alone to various remote locations across Cornwall and Somerset, with Watts shooting Hegarty in the wilderness, a tiny figure moving through a vast, desolate landscape - a small man in a big world.

THE LIFE AND DEATH bring their stunning, emotional live show to one of London's most wonderful, special and utterly unique venues, with a thrilling line-up of SPECIAL GUESTS.

LINE-UP:

THE LIFE AND DEATH

THE LIFE AND DEATH have injected a new energy into the London UK alt-rock underground, thrilling crowds with their emotional, dynamic live shows.

The songs are of love and heartbreak; hope and despair; belonging and betrayal. And the sound is dynamic, thrilling and catchy as hell. Imagine a triangle with The Strokes, Nirvana and Radiohead at its three corners. Then fill it with the swagger of The Afghan Whigs, the attitude of The Clash, the slink of Motown, and the pop attack of The Ramones.

Music for the lost, the hopeful and the brave of heart.

"The music from THE LIFE AND DEATH feels like a ceremony, bringing listeners to a state of communion, washed free of fear with its pulsating heartbeat of new wave rock. These are punks with souls." – L. Landon – LSR

MARINE

Marine grew in the gaps between the concrete of the city, with four very different stories combining into one. Intuitive beats mix with hypnotic bass, whilst the two vocals of Cara Sebastian and Ruby Jack braid together over hooky guitar lines.

The songs of Marine are crystallised from mythology and fables, mingling with personal words and emotions to form tales of the ordinary and extraordinary. They describe themselves as ‘Fable Electric’, a genre all their own, combining their fascination of the underworld, Seal demons, mighty Kraken, werewolves, witches and gods.... even questioning the very nature of storytelling itself.

Drawing parallels with Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Radiohead, and Warpaint , these audacious girls have been running their own show, touring Europe and the UK and quickly building a cult following in Berlin and London flogging countless handmade CDs and artwork. Their first festival season together last summer saw dynamite shows at Secret Garden Party, Shambala and more, leading to support from BBC6 Music.

Their story is just beginning as they delve deeper into their concept, having just proudly finished their debut album with a producer they greatly admire; Rob Ellis (Anna Calvi, PJ Harvey, Cold Specks).

“Track of the Day 10/10. There's something softly devastating about Marine.” Clash Magazine

“Submerging ethereal vocals and gentle guitars in an ocean of space.” NME

“It's instantly apparent how beautiful a collaboration Marine are; dreamy, rich, robust vocals... It's the musical equivalent of a creamy post-coital blush.” The Line of Best Fit

CHESCA DOLECKA

Chesca Dolecka brings her astonishing new material to this, her first major show since fronting London’s cult-heroes The Murder Barn.

Accompanied by Daniel Maiden-Wood (John J Presley, Anna Calvi), Chesca’s fierce new songs will be ripping the venue apart and filling it with the beautiful soulful energy of stunning new tracks “Blood To The Dogs”, “Adored” and more.

“Once upon a time, in the depths of East London, there was a red brick house known as the Workers’ Club... The story goes that the week before All Hallows’ Day, the building underwent a vicious queer spell. Horrifying monsters, creatures ascending from the dark and burnt witches were raised from their ashes. A dead forest started to grow through cracks in the walls, Voodoo rituals, profane ceremonials and wicked sorcery were performed until the sun sent them all back to the underworld.…”

THE RHYTHM METHOD RELEASE NEW SINGLE 'SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND' (MOSHI MOSHI)

"…the London duo who are managing to accomplish the hitherto impossible seeming task of making indie music that feels brand new." –The Guardian

"… channel infectious pop, shining 80s synths and brass trumpets set beneath choruses with playful yet sincere lyrics" - Mixmag

"Put simply, when a man is tired of The Rhythm Method, he is tired of life" – i-D

"The Rhythm Method continue to be charismatic and confusing (and amazing)" –Popjustice

The Rhythm Method return with bank holiday anthem 'Something For The Weekend', their first release on Moshi Moshi. An eloquent and instantly addictive ode to love, summer and a good haircut, teeming with pay-day reverie and date-night stupor, it fast tracks the group to the front row of classic modern pop. Just one play on the songs' effortless blend of sun-drunk riffs, feel-good rhythm and amorously infectious vocals is enough to put it on the Saturday night speed dial.

'Something For The Weekend' joins an already formidable canon of irreverently incisive, endlessly inventive songs including 'Party Politics', 'Local, Girl', 'Home Sweet Home' and 'Cruel', which have earned the duo of vocalist and lyricist Joey Bradbury and songwriter Rowan Martin fans ranging from Matty Healy from The 1975 to actress and playwright Michaela Coel, Suggs, The Street's Mike Skinner and Denise Welch.

SHOTGUN CAROUSEL, together with

HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS , are thrilled to present the 57th centennial...

VAMPIRE PAGEANT, a one-night vampstravaganza held on 26 October, in the eighteenth year of this century, at London’s most infamous underworld haunt, the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club!!!

Flocking to the city of smoke from across the globe, vampires of all identities are invited to enter this glorious and

most abominably ugly of beauty pageants

of their own free will, to compete in a number of ghoulish categories that will determine who is finally crowned Queen – or King – of the Damned.
As the moon rises high and the night air chills, your hosts proudly welcome bloodsucking beasts of all creeds – from ages 18 to 10,000 – to attend, either as contestants, or to cheer your favourite fiends through each round as they showcase their talent, style, wit, technique and malevolence.

After the spectacular grand finale, creatures of darkness are summoned to the dance floor by our favourite child of the night, DJ Finga Fangs and his Bloodsucking Beats, on hand with his sweet music to jive, twist and rock you into a hellish frenzy.
Vampires who wish to compete in this most prestigious of pageants will be able to acquire entry cards at the door; guests are encouraged to DRESS TO DEPRESS!

There will be DJs....

There will be prizes....

There will be blood.
Vampires only. Humans will be eaten on sight.
