-------------------------------

Pop-Up Opera is an innovative touring opera company which aims to broaden the appeal of opera and to challenge the way opera is performed, by taking it into unusual spaces and making it intimate and engaging!

Productions are fully staged but go beyond traditional theatres to a boat made of scrap metal, a restored Victorian poorhouse, a cylindrical shaft beneath the Thames, a cider barn, a winery and even 100 ft underground in candlelit caverns, and now we come to Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club.

Sit back and enjoy two delicious one-act comedies in which a pair of actresses battle it out to be the prima donna, and a pair of lovers tease and test their feelings for each other.

These brilliant gems showcase Mozart’s gorgeous music and sense of playfulness, the first written in the last 5 years of his life and the second when he was just 12 years old!

Two lively and engaging stories to delight you either side of an interval.

Bastien und Bastienne was one of Mozart's earliest operas, written in 1768 when he was only twelve years old! Der Schauspieldirektor was written during a very creative period in Mozart's life, the same year he premiered Le nozze di Figaro, and just 5 years before he died.

This opera will be sung in its original language of German, with English captions. Due to the brilliant acting from our singers and these captions, you will always be able to understand what is going on whilst still being able to enjoy the original music. These captions are not always your traditional surtitles, but allow us to bring in some relevant references and humour that you wouldn’t always see in every production.

"FIVE stars for an opera with no orchestra, very little design and no big stars itself? Yes; five stars" -

Daily Express
"I honestly cannot imagine anyone, of any age or class or tastes, who would have been bored or unmoved" - The Times
